Our Story
In April 2017, we were hired at Collamer House Bike & Ski in Malta, New York. For the next two years we worked as the only full-time, year-round employees. During this time we developed and honed our knowledge and skills in operating an independent bicycle shop and working as professional bicycle mechanics. We also learned the importance of creating a positive, inviting, and non-intimidating environment for everyone that walked through the door.

Collamer House Bike & Ski closed in January 2019 as the owner prepared for retirement, but we continued to look back on our time there with thoughts of how we could have done things differently if it had been our own shop. Since the closing of Collamer House Bike & Ski, we have visited many other shops - both in the local area and throughout the country. We have come to realize that the welcoming, non-intimidating customer experience that we had worked hard to provide was being neglected in many of the other shops we visited.
Because of this, we decided to open Evergreen Bicycle Works.
Evergreen Bicycle Works is a full-service bicycle shop offering new and used bicycles, gear & apparel, bicycle maintenance & repair, and bicycle rentals. But, it is so much more than just the products and services we offer. It is a place where you will always be greeted when you walk through the door no matter how busy we are. It is a place where you receive the same standard of service regardless of how much you are planning to spend. It is also a place where you can feel comfortable being a beginner - comfortable asking the questions that everyone else already seems to know the answer to.
We are bike riders. We probably spend more time riding bikeways and rail trails than riding out on the streets. We stop for food. We take lots of pictures. And, we started in the same place as most did at some point - without a quality bicycle, with many questions, and with some level of intimidation about visiting a bicycle shop. Whether you’re at the beginning of your cycling journey or well on your way, you’re always welcome at Evergreen Bicycle Works.
